Once again the Consumer magazine (www.consumer.co.nz) has researched the cost of heating your home over winter.

Here's what they found:
► Woodburners are still the cheapest way to heat your home. If you can get free firewood then there is practically no cost at all.* Even when wood must be purchased, however, a woodburner comes out on top - but only just. ► Second on the list is a heat pump. They are only marginally more expensive than a woodburner (if you are purchasing firewood). However, this assumes they are the correct capacity for the home they are heating and are properly installed. ► Nightstore and underfloor heating comes next. ► In fourth place is Diesel central heating closely followed by Natural Gas central heating. ► By the time we get to sixth place the cost is getting high. Electricity powered heaters be they panel heaters, column heaters, radiant or convector heaters are expensive to run. So is LPG central heating or flued heaters. ► And then comes the most expensive of all which Consumer says is an unflued LPG heater.
